Nike ACG Cloaks Five Trail Runners in a Camo Built From the Actual Alps

Most trail running kits are purpose built to be seen. They’re made from neon uppers, reflective hits, and singlets with colorful labels plastered throughout.Nike’s outdoor division took a different approach, and just went sprinting in the other direction.

Inspired by the terrain around Chamonix, France, the brand has dressed five trail shoes and a full apparel range in a print designed to melt into the mountainside. Meet the Nike ACG “Chamo Camo” collection.

A Print Pulled From Mont Blanc

To build the pattern, ACG’s design team studied the stuff Chamonix is actually made of. Granite, limestone, and sandstone from the Mont Blanc massif set the grey base, while the valley’s spruce forests, vegetation, and lichen layer in the green. The print even accounts for how the terrain reads differently between dawn and dusk.

There’s a racing logic buried in here, too. According to ACG apparel senior manager Patrick Montoya, competitors at the front and in the pack share “a desire to move unnoticed and stay focused on the terrain ahead.” And with Chamonix hosting UTMB in late August, plenty of athletes are about to test that theory on the print’s home turf.

Five Shoes, One Mountain

On the footwear side, the treatment has been applied to five different models spanning most of Nike’s trail range. The collection includes the carbon-plated Ultrafly Trail and ZoomX-stacked Zegama Trail to handle racing duties, while the Pegasus Trail, Wildhorse, and Terra Kiger cover everything from door-to-trail cruising to technical scrambles.

Kitted Out, Head to Toe

Of course, Nike didn’t forget about the apparel side of things either. The All Conditions Racing Department’s athlete kit gets the full treatment across Dri-FIT ADV singlets, distance tops, race shorts, tights, and warm-up layers, plus pieces built on Nike’s Aero-FIT Radical AirFlow tech, an ultra-open knit designed to dump heat during hot summer racing.

For the rest of us, the retail line brings trail tanks, Solar Chase tops, lined shorts, and graphic tees in both men’s and women’s cuts. So you can match the pros stride for stride, at least visually.
