Levi’s Celebrates 150 Years of the 501 with a Pair Inspired by Its Fit from 1954

The funny thing about jeans is that no matter how much you might pay for a brand-new pair, they could never equate to the iconic look of the Levi’s 501. And while you could easily find a vintage set of them online for as much as a brand new designer pair, the heritage brand’s reimagining of its 1954-era fit is an equally stylish choice. In celebration of the first pair’s 150th anniversary, Levi’s is rolling out a quartet of new takes on this iconic garment.

There are a few notable changes, though, some of which would argue are genuine improvements, including the button fly swapping out the original zipped design. Additionally, the latest silhouette features a higher rise with a tapered look, deeming them more office-appropriate than the typical, modern-day pair of 501s.

That said, Levi’s couldn’t rehaul the iconic design’s entire look, as each pant still features an inimitable Red Tab and distressed looks that practically make it seem as though the jeans came here in a time machine. These distinct looks include a traditional bright light blue and light indigo with a light wash and a darker blue option with a medium wash. On top of all this, the celebratory denims are finished with several embellishments acknowledging the historic anniversary.
