adidas’ iconic EQT is turning 30 years old this year, which is a feat that seems hard to believe — until you remember the innumerable sum of makeovers that the performance shoe has amassed since its release. Now solebox, the Germany-based sneaker retailer, is adding to that trend, having collaborated with the three stripes on a sleek new pair of kicks that are crafted to exude the spirit of Grand Prix racing.
The upcoming joint effort is an updated version of the EQT Proto — a never-released prototype silhouette that was going to be called “Racer.” Because of that connection, solebox was inspired by vintage racing suits in the new shoe’s design, as illustrated by its synthetic underlays donning a crisp shade of white amongst hues of pale yellow and strips of gleaming red. Eye-popping colorway aside, the classic EQT silhouette has remained a staple in comfort for three decades and will continue to do so for years to come. Each pair is boxed up in unique packaging meant to resemble a model car, ensuring the racer spirit comes home with those who are lucky enough to cop a pair. Of the 300 pairs made, 30 will include a pale yellow model Porsche 911 that’s entirely decked out in solebox branding down to the license plate. solebox also customized an actual 911 with the same livery as the model car, and they’ll be showcasing the sports car at an upcoming track test.
Limited to 300 pairs, these new EQTs surely check all presentation boxes before you even throw them on; that is, if you get the chance to. Though pricing has not been revealed, the adidas X solebox EQT Proto will be available for purchase through the retailer’s site and physical stores on October 23.
