PDW Turns Its Top-Shelf Invictus Folder into a Carbon Fiber-Scaled Butterfly Knife

In late 2015, Prometheus Design Werx debuted its Invictus knife, an automatic folder that — just like the rest of PDW’s wares — is crafted from high-end materials and engineered to perform under harsh conditions. The immense success of the model would ultimately prompt the San Francisco-based garment and gear purveyor to deliver a number of follow-up variants of the Invictus, the latest of which sees the company turn the decidedly premium folder into an equally top-shelf butterfly knife.

Dubbed the “SPD Invictus-Bali Carbon Fiber,” this new knife is described by Prometheus Design Werx as a “utility butterfly knife,” and as such features a workhorse of a (1.55″ thick) 3.75″ spearpoint blade that’s crafted from Böhler M390 steel and decorated via a laser-etched SPD Kraken Trident logo. Measuring 8.125″ when open (or 4.125″ closed), the SPD Invictus-Bali Carbon Fiber sees its top-shelf blade steel mated to a set of handles that are machined from 6AL-4V titanium billet before being adorned in a pair of milled carbon fiber scales. Alongside bronze bushings, satin stainless steel hardware, and five handle fullers, the knife also gets a titanium spring latch and a billet titanium pocket clip. The liberal use of titanium and carbon fiber also allows the balisong to tip the scales at only 4oz (or 0.25lbs) while jimping along the blade ears and back spacers bolsters grip, even when wet.

Equipped with a fine matte bead-peened Industrial finish, the Prometheus Design Werx SPD Invictus-Bali Carbon Fiber knife goes on sale at 12:00 PDT today with pricing set at $285. And, while this butterfly knife is expected to sell out extremely quickly — as most PDW offerings tend to do — the company also plans to release additional variants of the SPD Invictus-Bali in the coming weeks.

Purchase: $285
