Porsche’s Vision Gran Turismo Concept Is Too Cool for the Real World

Concept cars tend to capture the hearts and minds of gearheads because they’re almost always too cool to exist. When huge automakers with near-limitless amounts of resources throw money and creative engineers at a problem, you can almost guarantee that what results is something that an automotive mad scientist would create. Case in point, the Porsche Vision Gran Turismo, a car that’s literally too cool to exist in our lame, corporeal world. In fact, the car is so awesome, that it can only exist in one medium: video games.

As its name suggests, the Porsche Vision Gran Turismo will be featured in the upcoming seventh installment of the hit video game franchise, Gran Turismo. While Gran Turismo has featured Porsches since 2017, the Porsche Vision Gran Turismo is the German automaker’s first concept study created specifically for use in a video game. To create the Vision Gran Turismo, Porsche teamed up with Polyphony Digital, a subsidiary of Sony, to unleash all of their creativity into one concept for the virtual world. No longer held back by pesky variables such as money, practicality, or safety, Porsche not only used this opportunity to have some fun, but it also used it as a valuable experience to hone in on its future design language. The concept car exhibits the brand’s typical proportions with an especially sporty height-to-width ratio, an extremely low-set hood, and very pronounced wheel arches. It has a stunning interior, featuring a curved hologram display, titanium and carbon design accents, and seats with vegan leather trim.

Of course, the real fun of the vision comes in its (virtual) performance specs. The all-electric concept has a mind-boggling 1,099-HP engine (with a max output of 1274HP when using its overboost), a 0-62mph time of 2.1 seconds, and a face-melting top speed of 217mph. This incredible concept will be available exclusively in Gran Turismo 7, which will be released on March 4, 2022 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
