Since its debut in 1970, the Suzuki Jimny has remained a legend in the off-roading community despite not being sold in the United States since the mid-’90s. As the first kei-class vehicle (Japan’s class for small road-legal vehicles) to have four-wheel drive, the Jimny has always been seen as a more affordable choice when adventuring with a 4×4. It even broke the world record for the highest altitude achieved by a motor vehicle in 2007 when it reached nearly 22,000ft up Ojos del Salado.
In fact, it may be easy to forget the physical capabilities of the Jimny because of its stylish reputation. And yet, Suzuki has leaned into this pretense even further with the release of the new retro-looking Jimny Heritage Editions. If you’re in the U.S., unfortunately, you’ll have to travel down under as this new limited-edition version is exclusively sold in Australia.
Only 300 units will be made, featuring the Japanese brand’s ALLGRIP PRO 4WD system and an infotainment system inside similar to that of the GTX version. Although the powertrain is the same as the base model Jimny. Of course, this is all icing on the cake to the real selling point: the old-school red and orange decal kit on the livery and red mudflaps.
Available in white, gray, Jungle Green, and Bluish Black Pearl, the Jimny Heritage Edition is priced at AU$33,490 (~$22,682). Head over to Suzuki’s website to register your interest.
