When Range Rover describes their latest creation as appearing “dipped in black,” they’re not exaggerating. The new Range Rover Sport SV Black takes the already-extreme Sport SV and wraps it in a comprehensive monochrome treatment that covers literally every visible surface. More importantly, it’s no longer a limited edition. That’s right, this 626-horsepower luxury missile is now a permanent fixture in the lineup, ready to embarrass supercars while carrying five passengers in absolute comfort.

From Special Edition To Showroom Staple
The Range Rover Sport SV started life as an invitation-only special edition that proved so popular Land Rover couldn’t ignore the demand. After successful Edition One and Edition Two runs, they’ve made the smart decision to offer it as a full production model starting at £139,995 (roughly $182,000). The SV Black variant commands £154,975 (over $210,000), but for that premium you get what might be the most sinister-looking luxury SUV ever built.
Land Rover’s design team went completely overboard here (in all the right ways), treating every exterior element to Narvik Gloss Black finish. The carbon fiber hood, 23-inch forged wheels, brake calipers, quad exhausts, and even the SV roundels get the blackout treatment. And, we’re absolutely here for it.
The Performance Numbers That Matter
Under that murdered-out hood sits BMW’s brilliant 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 with mild-hybrid assistance, producing 626 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque. But here’s where the SV Black gets interesting – it’s actually quicker than the standard SV. While the regular model hits 60 mph in 3.8 seconds, the Black edition does it in 3.6 seconds and tops out at 180 mph instead of 165 mph.
That performance improvement likely comes from weight savings and aerodynamic tweaks, though Land Rover hasn’t detailed exactly how they squeezed those extra tenths out of an already-extreme SUV. What they will tell you is that it’ll happily hunt down Lamborghini Uruses and Porsche Cayenne Turbo GTs while offering significantly more luxury and refinement.

Engineering Beyond The Paint
The real magic happens with Range Rover’s 6D Dynamics suspension system, which uses cross-linked hydraulic dampers instead of traditional anti-roll bars. This setup actively pumps fluid around to resist body roll and minimize pitch and dive under acceleration and braking. In SV mode, the ride height drops 15mm for a more aggressive stance and flatter cornering behavior.
Carbon ceramic brakes provide stopping power worthy of the performance, while optional carbon fiber wheels are 41% lighter than standard alloys.
Luxury Meets Rebellion
Inside, the SV Black maintains the monochrome theme with Ebony Windsor leather and Gloss Grand Black finishers throughout. The illuminated SV Black treadplates make a statement every time you open the door, while the sculpted performance seats offer both comfort and support during spirited driving.
Those seats feature Range Rover’s “Body and Soul” technology with haptic feedback via SUBPAC tech. Which essentially turns your chair into a tactile extension of the audio system.

The Bigger Picture
What makes the SV Black compelling isn’t just its 180 mph capability or stealth aesthetic – it’s the fact that Range Rover built this as an actual daily driver. This isn’t a track-focused monster that punishes you on the commute. It’s a luxury SUV that happens to be faster than most supercars, with all the refinement and capability Range Rover is known for.
Martin Limpert, Global Managing Director for Range Rover, captures it perfectly: “Range Rover Sport SV Black represents the essence of sporting luxury; a statement of audacious rebellion. We’ve created a vehicle that combines pure power and performance with a gritty, uncompromising attitude that demands attention.”
