Early each year, noted auction house Mecum holds its Kissimmee sale at the Osceola Heritage Park in Kissimmee, Florida. Touted as the “world’s largest collector car auction,” this annual sale always boasts a wide array of vehicles across a slew of genres and eras, however, its US-based location means that the auction typically plays host to a disproportionate amount of classic American rides. And this year’s selection of lots is no different, as Mecum is offering what it’s dubbed the “Once in Lifetime Offering of Corvettes” — 10 of the most successful and sought-after Corvettes ever made available to the general public.
This elite crop of Corvettes includes the 1967 “Vault Find” Corvette Coupe, 1 of the 44 produced ’57 Corvette Big Brake Airbox specimens, the 1960 Corvette “Race Rat” that took first in its class (GT14) at the 1960 12 Hours of Sebring, 1 of the 38 Corvette Tankers ever made, and the 1966 Development L88 Corvette. The two most significant specimens out of all the lots, however, are without a doubt the 1963 “Gulf One” Corvette Z06, which is reportedly the most successful production racing Corvette of the entire C2 era, and the 1957 Super Sport show car — the only example ever built — that was used to introduce the then-groundbreaking Rochester Ramjet Fuel Injection system, as well as the first Super Sport model ever shown off by Chevy.
Each of the ten specimens in Mecum’s “Once in Lifetime Offering of Corvettes” Sale will go under the hammer at the auction house’s 2022 Kissimmee Sale in Florida, running from January 6th through the 16th — though valuations and estimated values for this rare fleet of Corvettes have yet to be revealed.
