Few names are more revered in the automotive world than McLaren. Although, despite nearly every other marque making the transition over to battery-powered vehicles, the U.K.-based company has yet to announce an all-electric production car. It has, however, just unveiled an electric scooter.
McLaren’s tech branch, McLaren Applied, has created LAVOIE, a mobility sub-brand that’s debuting with the Series 1 e-scooter, an innovative form of urban transportation inspired by the luxurious British sports cars. Weighing just over 36lbs thanks to automotive-standard magnesium construction, the scooter boasts a patented Flowfold technology that allows it to quickly fold up with the push of a button for easier storage and convenient office commuting.
Capable of 31 miles of range off a 2-hour charge, the Series 1 increases nighttime safety with a cutting-edge lighting system that illuminates the rider on board to go along with the triangular headlight in front. Other features include the integrated app to track the scooter and provide navigation, the built-in security alarm, and lefthand and righthand signals activated from the handlebar.
Just as impressive as its groundbreaking tech is how striking the e-scooter looks from an aesthetic perspective, which is exactly what you’d expect from McLaren.
