Founded by Bruce McLaren in 1963, McLaren got its start building race machines before eventually establishing McLaren Cars (now known as McLaren Automotive) in 1985 and then releasing its first production vehicle in 1992 with the legendary F1. Ever since its very first automotive offering, McLaren’s exotic rides have always been largely defined by their immense power and incredible performance capabilities. And while the British brand’s latest release isn’t of the automotive variety, it nonetheless maintains the performance-focused traits that characterize McLaren’s cars.
Introducing, the McLaren E-Bike range — an envelop-pushing, four-model lineup that, just like the F1 before it, sees McLaren’s first foray into a new segment result in a new world record.

The Basics
While McLaren’s E-Bike lineup sees the exotic carmaker venture into uncharted territory, the four two-wheelers comprising this new range manage to deliver highly-competitive performance capabilities. The four E-MTBs consist of a hardtail design and a full-suspension model — both of which are offered in 250-watt or 650-watt mid-drive motors. Both the rear-shock-equipped and rigid-tailed variants are all constructed around an advanced carbon fiber chassis design that was painstakingly developed over the course of more than 1,000 hours.
Envelop-Pushing Powertrains
At the heart of the entire lineup is a potent mid-drive motor; a 250-watt unit cranking out 89.2ft-lbs of torque for the Sport 250 and Extreme 250; and a 600-watt power plant making 118.74ft-lbs of torque for the Sport 600 and Extreme 600. The 250 model’s motor draws from a 36-volt, 540Wh battery while the more powerful 600 Series sees its motor connected to a 48-volt, 72V, 420Wh cell — both of which are housed in the carbon frame’s downtube. Paired with a 12-speed, mechanically-shifting SRAM GX Eagled drivetrain, both motors come equipped with no assist, Eco, Trail, and Sport modes, while the 600 variants also gain a special supplementary Race mode that unlocks their full power.
World-Record-Setting Trail Blazers
With the 250 and 600 series models making 89.2 and 118.74ft-lbs of torque, they not only generate more torque than Ducati’s latest flagship superbike, but the top-of-the-line Sport 600 and Extreme 600 models also bear the distinction of now being the world’s most powerful trail-legal electric mountain bikes in history. What’s more, not only are all four eMTBs incredibly potent, but they also feature razor-sharp handling and a spare-no-expense list of componentry — just as one would expect from an ultra-exclusive brand like McLaren.

A Common Cockpit
Just like its state-of-the-art supercars, McLaren’s new electric mountain bikes boast advanced, thoroughly-modern cockpits. This setup sports an integrated bar and stem crafted from matching carbon fiber. The front of all four of McLaren’s eMTBs has been fitted with 1,550-lumen LED headlights while the top of the cockpit boasts an integrated digital display.

Sport 250 & Sport 600 Chassis & Components
The McLaren Sport electric mountain bike range represents the marque’s hardtail platform. Constructed around a rigid-tail carbon fiber chassis, both the Sport 250 and Sport 600 see their composite framework paired with a RockShox Pike Rush RC fork offering 5.51” of travel. Riding on an eMTB-specific 29” carbon fiber wheel set shod in Pirelli Scorpion Enduro rubber, the Sport 250 and 600 also feature SRAM G2 RE four-piston hydraulic disc brakes.
