McLaren has just dropped something special for their Japanese clientele — the 750S JC96, a limited-run supercar that pays homage to one of the brand’s most significant motorsport victories in the Land of the Rising Sun. This pays homage to the McLaren F1 GTR that clinched the 1996 All Japan Grand Touring Car Championship driver’s title, complete with Tiger Stripe livery inspiration and hardware that bridges racing heritage with modern performance.

Lucky 61

The story behind the JC96 goes back to 1996, when McLaren’s partnership with Team Goh produced one of the most memorable championship runs in Japanese motorsport. The F1 GTR, draped in its distinctive Rocket Pink and Tarmac Grey Tiger Stripe design, dominated the JGTC season with drivers John Nielsen and David Brabham behind the wheel. That car wore number 61 — hence the JC96’s production run of exactly 61 units. McLaren’s success in Japan extends far beyond that single championship, with the Suzuka Circuit serving as a McLaren stronghold during the dominant Honda partnership era and Ayrton Senna’s legendary title fights.

’90s Nostalgia

The JC96 debut marks the first time McLaren’s MSO High Downforce Kit appears on a 750S Spider, bringing serious aerodynamic improvements to the open-top variant. The kit includes a revised front bumper with an enlarged dual-element splitter, a raised active rear spoiler with integrated endplates, and louvered under-wing panels—all working together to generate 10% more downforce than the standard car.

Those new 15-spoke Ultra-Lightweight Delta forged alloy wheels aren’t just aesthetic nods to the F1 GTR Longtail variants but functional improvements that reduce unsprung weight while channeling the racing DNA of their predecessors. The F1 Gold brake calipers and Natural Titanium exhaust finish complete the motorsport-inspired exterior package.

Tiger Stripes for the Modern Era

McLaren offers four different accent colors for the JC96’s Tiger Stripe-inspired details (Memphis Red, Titanium Silver, Ice White, and Graphite Grey). These accents appear on the front splitter, rear wing endplates, and door mirror casings, so customers can personalize their vehicle.

For the truly committed, McLaren Special Operations will hand-paint just four examples with the full JC96 Tribute Livery — a complete Tiger Stripe treatment that directly channels the 1996 race car.

Inside, the F1 GTR influence continues with gold-finished pedals, drive select switches, and a numbered dedication plaque. The Alcantara Performance interior options feature JC96 embroidered branding on headrests and armrests, while Brushed Dark Titanium details throughout the cabin reinforce the racing connection.

The Heart of the Matter

Underneath all the Japan-specific touches sits the same M840T 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 that makes the standard 750S such a weapon. With 740hp and 590lb.ft of torque channeled through McLaren’s carbon fiber Monocage II chassis and Proactive Chassis Control III suspension, the JC96 maintains the 750S’s position as one of the lightest and most agile supercars in its class. The additional downforce from the HDK should only enhance the already impressive track capabilities.
