After a decade and a half long hiatus from the supercar market, Maserati returned to the scene with a bang last year with the debut of its all-new MC20 model — a 3,300-pound supercar powered by the Trident brand’s all-new 630-hp twin-turbocharged Nettuno V6. And while the MC20 is already a pure-bred, race-derived machine, Maserati has now unveiled an even more capable track-only variant known as Project24.
Constructed around an ultra-light carbon fiber central monocoque chassis, Project24 features Brembo CCMR ventilated racing brakes, bespoke center-locking forged 18” aluminum rims shod in racing slicks, adjustable racing ABS and traction control, and a double-wishbone suspension setup with a semi-virtual steering axis, adjustable racing dampers, and adjustable front and rear anti-roll bars. At the heart of Project24 is a retuned version of the Nettuno engine, with the twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 now putting down 740hp — all of which is sent through a 2WD system. This dry-sump engine is also mated to a six-speed sequential racing gearbox with paddle shifters, a race clutch, and a limited-slip self-locking mechanical differential. Boasting a dry weight of 2,755lbs, Project24 achieves a beyond impressive power-to-weight ratio of around 3.72lbs per horsepower.
Though Project24 is based on the existing MC20 supercar, Centro Stile Maserati has treated the track-only race weapon to a completely novel bodywork design with a markedly more pronounced aero kit and an even lower stance and ride height. Generating incredible amounts of downforce, the bodywork is crafted entirely from carbon fiber and features multi-adjustable front and rear wings, Lexan front and side windows, and embedded FIA-approved rain lights. The interior of the two-seat non-road-homologated car has also been outfitted with race seats with six-point harnesses, an adjustable pedal box and steering column, a race-spec multi-function carbon fiber steering wheel with a built-in display, air conditioning, a dash and data acquisition system, and an optional in-car camera, rear-view camera, and telemetry recording. Compliant with FIA race safety requirements, Project24 also gets an FIA-spec fuel cell, fire extinguisher, and, safety roll cage.
Though Maserati has yet to reveal pricing or an official release date, the company has confirmed that the Project24 Supercar will be limited to only 62 units worldwide. More information on the 740-hp supercar can be found on the marque’s website.
