While Lightship’s flagship AE.1 Cosmos Edition — a $250,000 statement piece limited to 50 units — grabbed headlines last December for bringing Tesla-level innovation to the stagnant RV world, the Colorado startup has now unveiled two new variants that bring their aero-electric vision to broader audiences.
Since launching publicly in 2023 as the first all-electric travel trailer, Lightship has become somewhat of the antithesis of traditional RV manufacturers who’ve largely ignored the electric vehicle transition. Founded by Tesla alumni, their telescoping, aerodynamic design philosophy stems from a simple observation that most travel trailers are essentially rolling bricks that destroy your tow vehicle’s efficiency. With production now underway on the sold-out Cosmos Edition, these two new trims prove that intelligent propulsion technology doesn’t have to cost a quarter-million dollars.

The TrekDrive Advantage
First and foremost, whichever AE.1 trim you pick, you’ll get Lightship’s innovative TrekDrive system. This allows the trailers to propel themselves and assist you when, say, merging onto a highway or climbing a mountain road. But then when you go downhill, the electric motor can actually regenerate power, doubling the range of the electric vehicle towing you.

Atmos: The Premium Option
At $184,000, the AE.1 Atmos trim is a solid middle-ground choice, packing a substantial 77kWh battery system paired with 1.8kW of integrated solar panels for extended trips. Still featuring the same amenities as the Cosmos, the Atmos includes a full kitchen with dishwasher, sleeps up to four people, and features Lightship’s AirRight climate control system. It also packs some pretty innovative towing technology that includes an auto-leveling system, powered stabilizers, and a LookOut camera for maximum visibility.

Panos: Accessible Innovation
While these kinds of luxury trailers can potentially cost you an arm and a leg, Lightship has given customers an entry-level trim that keeps the TrekDrive tech and overall ethos of the AE.1 but scales certain features back for a more accessible $151,000 price tag. For one, the battery has been reduced to 44kWh and the solar panel has been halved to 840W.
Other compromises exist as well, such as the removal of the dishwasher and making the main sleeping area fixed rather than convertible. Also, certain premium towing features become optional. Yet the Panos retains the same sleek telescoping profile with panoramic windows throughout and the intelligent propulsion system that sets these trailers apart from literally anything else on the road right now.
Inside, you have some nautical theming with blue upholstery and red accents. At 6,700lbs and 22’7″ long when deployed, the Panos maintains reasonable towing dynamics while maximizing interior space through meticulous engineering.
