John Deere Unveiled its First Ever Electric Zero-Turn Mower

After beginning his career as a blacksmith, John Deer would eventually develop and design the world’s first commercially successful, self-scouring steel plow in 1837, marking the first in a long line of John Deere products that continues through today. And while John Deere now produces a wide range of agricultural machinery, engines, and lawn care equipment, the Illinious outfit has been slow to adopt electric powertrains. This is now changing, however, as the Moline-based manufacturer has now revealed its first-ever electric zero-turn mower with the John Deere Z370R Electric ZTrak Mower.

Released alongside the American brand’s all-new new 185 E-Cut and 225 E-Cut electric walk greens mowers, the new  Z370R Electric ZTrak Mower is completely devoid of engine noise or emissions. Sharing numerous structural components with the gas-powered  Z300 ZTrak models, the new EV variant boasts the same heavy-duty formed and welded steel tubular frame, caster wheel pivots, and 12 gauge, steel Accel Deep Mower Deck. Equipped with the same 7-mph maximum forward travel speed as the transaxle used on gas-powered Z300 ZTrak Mowers, the mower is helmed via a 20” custom-tailored seat with thick foam, spring suspension, and armrests. Offered with a slew of available add-ons and accessories including optional MulchControl and a 6.5-bu (230-L) rear collector bagger, the Z370R can convert to side discharges in mere seconds and sports a deep mower deck design.

Offering 40% more power than electric mowers from competitors, John Deere’s Z370R ZTrak model comes loaded with a standard 3.2 kilowatt-hour sealed Lithium-Ion battery that can mow a full 2 acres — or over 87,000 square feet — of land on a single charge. Alongside a potent battery and efficient motor, the use of optimized blades also helps to achieve the mower’s impressive autonomy. What’s more, once the battery nears depletion, the mower blades automatically switch off and a reserve battery cell allows the mower to be ridden back to a charging outlet. IP66-rated, the new model also features a sealed mower deck motor, a rugged stamped-steel body construction, double-captured mower wheels, a tubular steel front bumper, a smart charger integrated into the mower, and a maintenance-free electric transaxle.
