BMW’s Long-Awaited Concept XM Is the First M Model with an Electric Motor

Five decades ago, BMW’s high-performance sector in BMW M GmbH unveiled the first-of-its-class BMW M1, which ultimately proved to be the only-of-its-class, as well. Serving as their one and only standalone M model, the German manufacturers look to celebrate its 50th anniversary in the most contemporary way possible — and what’s more modern than looking to the future? BMW has introduced the Concept XM, the very first electrified premium model in the automakers’ illustrious M portfolio, and it goes without saying that this is a major deal.

Boasting an all-electric range of up to 49 miles, the hybridized Concept XM runs on BMW’s newly-developed M Hybrid Drive System, packing both a V8 engine and a high-performance all-electric motor, which combined are capable of delivering up to an eye-popping 750 horsepower and 737lb.-ft. of torque. Above all else, BMW modernized the entire look for the sake of this striking concept. Sharpened at nearly every corner, the angular exterior leads into a meticulously spacious cockpit and rear, the latter of which they’ve called the M Lounge. Finished off with sleek carbon fiber detailing, interwoven carbon, and an illuminated headliner, this is surely a state-of-the-art M model from every standpoint

While the boxy concept is merely a hybrid, BMW has vowed to manufacture half of their vehicles to be fully electric by 2030. Moreover, BMW says that the XM series production model will come into fruition at the tail end of 2022, leaving us to imagine what 2023 has in store until this angular behemoth hits the market.
