Like most novel and emerging technologies, electric motorcycles were fairly exorbitant upon their debut, often costing two to three times that of a comparable gas-powered bike. Recognizing both this reality and the fact that EVs undoubtedly represent the future of transportation, quite a few companies have been working on cutting-edge yet affordable electric motorcycles that aim to make two-wheeled EVs accessible to the masses. One such outfit is Brazilian startup, Auper Motorcycles, which has just pulled the cover off of its accessibly-priced and state-of-the-art ebike dubbed the InCity.
The InCity is pieced together around a tubular trellis frame that’s been paired with an inverted fork, a tubular mono-shocked swing-arm, and a set of cast wheels. A modern naked bike design with some futuristic cafe racer influence, the InCity sports a waspish, suspended tail section, a circular LED headlight with a backlit Auper logo, and a tank cover that feeds into a fairing and belly-pan that conceals the bike’s battery pack. Benefitting from switched reluctance motor (SRM) drive technologies, the InCity is powered by a proprietary permanent magnet-free electric motor developed by Auper’s partner Enedym Inc. that hugely cuts down on production and material costs while also being markedly better for the environment. Drawing from a centrally-mounted battery pack that affords a 100-mile range, the motor allows for a 5-second 0-60mph time and a top speed exceeding 90mph.
Equipped with stability control, ABS, and traction control, the InCity also features a centralized Vehicle Control Unit, haptic seat feedback, smart all-LED lighting, and fully-encrypted electronic components that make it virtually impossible for one of Auper’s bike’s to be stolen. It doesn’t end there, however, as the ebike also gets an adaptive Intelligent Instrument Cluster that shows realtime performance metrics along with live traffic info and performance history. Plus, on top of its myriad of smart safety features, freeway-capable speeds, and 100-mile range, the InCity is made all the more conducive to urban use and commuting through the electric motorcycle’s generous 37 liters of internal storage space — enough to comfortably fit a full-faced helmet and still have room for a bag.
While we expect the Auper Motorcycles InCity to hit the market at some point over the next few years, the company has yet to reveal any information on market availability or pricing.
