After spending the better part of a decade sharpening her rally skills at high-profile events like the Mint 400, Baja 1000, Rallye Aicha des Gazelles, and Australasian Safari Rally, American racer Amy Lerner set her sights on the 2022 Dakar Classic — a 14-day vintage race event that sees competitors traverse the same 3,800 miles of grueling desert as the regular Dakar Rally. Channeling the spirit of Michele Mouton and competing in the first all-female team ever to take on the Dakar Classic, Lerner (and navigator Sara Bossaert) piloted a specially-prepped 1982 Porsche 911SC and would go on to achieve a stage win and an overall second-place finish in their class. With this year’s Dakar Classic now in the rearview mirror, Lerner is currently seeking a new home for this rally-ready 911.
Taking ample inspiration from Porsche’s 911 SC/RS 4×4 (or 953), Lerner’s Super Carrera has been bestowed with a host of modern off-road upgrades including a lifted RTEC suspension setup, a full-length skid plate, AP Racing disc brakes, an FIA-spec fuel-cell, a roof-mounted intake scoop, BFG all-terrain tires, and a hood-mounted quad-unit LED Vision X light-pod, just to name a few. Powering the Super Carrera is a 260-hp 3.0-liter engine built and tuned by Claudio SG Racing.
The interior of the car has also been treated to an OMP steering wheel and pedals, STACK and VDO instrumentation set in a custom carbon dash, an FIA-approved internal roll-cage, Recaro seats with Schroth Racing harnesses, and a rear-mounted spare supplemented via a second full-sized spare wheel housed in the Super Carrera’s frunk. The vehicle also comes adorned in a replica Rothmans livery, and its roof has recently been signed by race legend — and 1983 Dakar winner — Jacky Ickx. After completing the 2022 Dakar Classic, this 1982 911 specimen has received a major servicing from GRally — a renowned race outfit with an extensive WRC and Dakar Rally history. And, in addition to the 911SC itself, the sale also includes an absolutely enormous number of spare parts, making this an amazing turnkey opportunity for participation in vintage rally events.
This ex-Dakar Classic 1982 Porsche 911SC (Chassis No. WP0ZZZ91ZBS102869) is slated to cross the auction block at Bonhams’ upcoming ‘Les Grandes Marques à Monaco’ sale on May 13, where the Rothmans-liveried rally racer is expected to fetch between $182,00 and $235,600.
