Having previously penned one-off vehicles for everyone from Ringbrothers to Saleen to Speedkore, Sean Smith Designs is undoubtedly one of the mot elite automotive designers working today, specializing in producing restomodded renders that can actually be brought to fruition in real life. One such work is Sean Smith’s “Infrared” project, a bespoke 1971 Chevrolet Camaro restomod that’s been heavily modernized inside and out.
Built and tuned by Sante Fe Springs’ L&R Engines, this ’71 Camaro is powered by a 545ci (7.5L) LSX V8 engine that’s received a shaved MSD intake manifold, upgraded cylinder heads, a Holley 90mm throttle body, XRP hoses, a Bowler Performance Tremec Stage II six-speed manual transmission, and a custom bronze Cerakoted exhaust with Helmholtz resonators and flush-mounted Borla mufflers — a powertrain that’s now good for an even 600hp and 590ft-lbs of torque at the rear wheels. Performance upgrades include one-off staggered HRE forged three-piece S207H wheels, a Detroit Speed hydroformed front subframe, tubular control arms, an upgraded sway bar, adjustable JRI coil-overs, and top-shelf BAER six-piston calipers chomping down on 14” drilled and slotted rotors.
Cloaked in a Shakir Orange Metallic livery, the exterior of the vehicle has been bestowed with a larger black-finished EVOD Industries billet grille, a SpeedKore carbon front spoiler, a body-colored rear spoiler and split bumperettes, machined integrated air intake scoops, extended perimeter rocker panels, and Dapper Lighting HID headlamps. The interior is even more bespoke and features a billet Sparc Industries steering wheel, custom Infrared-branded instrumentation, Audi TT bucket seats upholstered in Hyde’s Lamborghini Nero Perseus leather, a leather-wrapped roll cage, an Alcantara-coated headliner, a Sparc Industries machined dashboard and engraved shifter knob, a one-off Infrared plaque, Lokar shift lever and pedals, and a Kenwood touchscreen infotainment system. In addition to being featured in an Autotopia episode, this car has also received numerous first-place awards at some elite car shows.
Located in Costa Mesa, California, the Sean Smith-designed 1971 Chevrolet Camaro “Infrared” build (Chassis: 124871L08856) is currently sitting on the online auction block of Bring a Trailer, where, at time of writing, bidding has reached $210,000 with four days remaining on the sale.
