Years removed from unveiling its strikingly innovative EV, California-based startup Aptera is finally beginning to produce launch edition models. Boasting a handful of the same specs we’ve been salivating over since the turn of the decade, this three-wheeled ride is almost ready to hit the road.

Although the marque didn’t necessarily deliver on its promise of 1,000 miles on a single charge, as those expectations have been brought down to Earth with its 400-mile range, the teardrop-shaped Launch Edition remains as eye-catching and as capable as other EVs we’ve seen. Featuring integrated solar panels in the nose and roof, Aptera’s introductory model can generate as much as 40 miles’ worth of power following a full day of basking in the sun.

In an effort the make “the most efficient vehicle” possible, Aptera had to entirely reimagine the typical model’s shape, resulting in this aerodynamic look with an unfathomably small drag coefficient of 0.13. Additionally, it weighs up to 65% less than most modern electric cars. And while it’s also smaller than most, it was made with you and your cargo in mind, featuring 25 cubic feet of rear storage to keep your gear ready for anything. Of course, sustainability remains at the forefront of this innovative EV, but the manufacturer didn’t seek to sacrifice speed and power. Thus, the production model offers a 0-60 of under four seconds and a blistering top speed of 101 MPH.
