Originally produced from 1963 through 1977, the Alpine A110 is almost certainly the most iconic French sports car of all time. Though the car was revived in 2017, the modern A110 still packed a gas engine — a 300-hp 1.8-liter inline-four that’s also found in the Renault Mégane RS. As we grow ever closer to an all-electric future, however, Alpine appears to be readying itself for the transition, developing an electrified version of the A110 that the French firm has just unveiled in prototype form.
Coinciding with the 60th anniversary of the A110, this all-electric prototype is known as the A110 E-ternity and is based on the same battery module platform as the all-electric Renault Mégane E-Tech crossover-hot hatch. This 12-battery, a 60-kWh, 200-kW unit is paired with an electric motor configuration that produces 238hp and 221ft-lbs of torque and allows for a 155-mph top speed and a 0-60mph time of as little as 4.5 seconds. This cutting-edge EV powertrain is also mated to a PDK-style dual-clutch transmission. Despite the A110 being converted to an EV, the car weighs only 568lbs more than the existing petrol-powered version, tipping the scales at 3,037lbs at the curb.
Boasting a 42/58 weight distribution, the A110 E-ternity also sports forged aluminum wheels and top-shelf Ohlins suspension at all four corners. Trimmed in ecofriendly materials largely derived from linen, the interior of the car also features an innovative, tablet-based multimedia system paired with an eight-speaker sound system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity.
Thus far Alpine has yet to reveal pricing, availability, or plans for production, though we anticipate an all-electric A110 to hit the market within the next few years — if not sooner.
