Bentley’s Chauffeur-Class Flying Spur S Now Packs 671 Horsepower for the Driver

The Flying Spur has always been the Bentley you get driven in, not the one you drive. It’s the car that glides up to valet while you wrap up a business call in the back. So the quiet return of the S badge looks like Bentley is trying to switch things up a bit, and has decided the driver should get a turn at the fun, too.

The fourth-generation 2Flying Spur gets new sheetmetal and a hybrid V8 across the board, but the S is the one that deserves the special attention, and it wears that badge harder than any Spur before it.

Speed-Spec Muscle in a Limo Suit

Under the hood sits a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 paired with a hybrid system, good for 671 horsepower and 686 lb-ft of torque. That’s nearly 20 percent more than any prior Flying Spur S, enough to accelerate 5,000-plus pounds of British luxury to 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds on the way to 191 mph.

The S now borrows the Performance Active Chassis from the range-topping Speed and Mulliner, which includes torque vectoring, a 48-volt active anti-roll setup, and, for the first time ever on an S, an electronic limited-slip diff.

A Face It Hasn’t Worn Since 1962

The Flying Spur drops its quad headlights for a single unit per side, a look no Bentley sedan has worn since 1962, lining it up with the latest Continental GT.

The S leans dark, naturally. The Blackline treatment swaps chrome for gloss black on the grille, wings, and badging, and adds Beluga black mirror caps and tinted lamps front and rear. It’s also rolling on new 22-inch wheels.

Twelve Hours a Seat

Inside, the S brings the range to five seat styles, each one taking 12 hours to hand-build. Spring for the Virtuoso Collection and you get a 21-speaker Naim for Mulliner system derived from Focal’s Grand Utopia speakers, plus Champagne Gold trim and a moody new Dark Teal paint.
