The electric car revolution is upon us. While near-100-year-old brands are still in the process of making the shift, newer brands are cropping up now and again with their minds solely focused on battery-powered solutions. Among the most notable is Polestar, a subsidiary of Volvo and, in turn, the Chinese-based parent company Geely. A few months ago, Polestar took its sleek, if not futuristic, design language and applied it to the O2 concept, an all-electric roadster said to utilize a unibody frame made from anodized aluminum for maximum sustainability and recycled materials for the interiors as well.
Today, Polestar announced the O2 would enter production as the Polestar 6 in 2026. The car will be powered by the in-house 800V electrical system being used for the Polestar 5 (out in 2024), which boasts an 884hp output with 663lb-ft of torque from a dual-motor powertrain. Likewise, the vehicle will be capable of a top speed of 155mph and a 0 to 60 acceleration of 3.1 seconds.
This would, of course, imply that there were five other production cars preceding the Polestar 6. Well, yes and no. By the time the vehicle gets delivered to consumers in 2026, there will have been a quintet of models already out. As of right now, however, Polestar 1 and 2 are all that exist — the latter of which debuted back in 2019 — but that should change shortly. Later this year, the Swedish marque is set to unveil an electric crossover, the Polestar 3.
Starting today, interested consumers can begin reserving spots to buy the Polestar 6 a mere four years out, including the sky blue LA Edition, which will be limited to 500 examples. The estimated price tag for the Polestar 6 is $200,000.
