Back in 2022, a tiny British single-seater screamed up the Goodwood hillclimb in 39.08 seconds, breaking the record and most of the internet along with it. In the years since, that prototype has swiped the closed-wheel lap record at Hockenheim, beaten a Formula 1 car around the Top Gear test track, and driven upside down just because it could.
Now McMurtry is finally ready to hand over the keys, with the production Spéirling PURE making its global public debut at The Quail on August 14.

Grip From a Dead Stop
Every wing and splitter on the planet shares the same flaw. They need speed to work, which means zero downforce when you’re stationary. McMurtry’s Downforce-on-Demand system doesn’t abide by those same rules.

Two fans spinning at 23,000 rpm evacuate the air beneath a sealed underbody skirt, sucking the car onto the tarmac with up to 4,400 pounds of force at 0 mph. That’s over 1,500 pounds more than the car weighs, which is how it managed that upside-down party piece.

It’s the same idea motorsport squashed twice, first with Chaparral’s 2J in 1970 and again with Brabham’s BT46B in 1978. McMurtry just spent a decade turning it into something you can buy. The result is 3g of cornering and braking force, available everywhere on the circuit.

95% New, Zero Percent Watered Down
The production car shares almost nothing with the record-breaker. McMurtry says 95% of the components are new, headlined by a 100kWh battery (up from 60) that stretches the wheelbase by roughly eight inches and delivers 25 to 31 miles of flat-out running at LMP2 pace.

The new carbon monocoque adds elbow room and wider doors, the electric steering gives way to a hydraulic setup with F1-style valving, and there are now headlights and turn signals for evening track sessions. An onboard compressor even retracts the skirt for loading the thing into a trailer.

Now, the numbers you came for. New Helix motors send 1,000 bhp to the rear wheels of a car weighing roughly 2,980 pounds, good for 0-60 mph in an absurd 1.55 seconds and a 190-mph top speed.
Best of all, McMurtry says it can be run by a driver and a “competent friend” rather than a full race team. So choose your friends wisely.
