When the world thought 2016 would mark the end of the Land Rover Defender, billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe decided the world still deserved a British 4×4 vehicle. A couple of years later, he founded INEOS and then teased his inaugural vehicle, the Grenadier luxury SUV, in 2021 before officially debuting it last year. By then, the Defender was already revived, but not before INEOS was able to amass quite the following. The Grenadier was quickly followed by the Quartermaster pick-up truck version. Now, the marque has revealed its third vehicle line, which includes its first-ever electric vehicle.

While some INEOS fans may not be thrilled about the jump to battery power, the new Fusilier does come with two powertrain options. One will be entirely electric and the other will be electric with a small combustion engine with the sole purpose of extending the range of the battery when you’re unable to plug it in to charge it up. Performance figures have yet to be unveiled but INEOS has previously stated that its planned electric platform was capable of a 249-mile range. Ratcliffe has said that the mixed powertrain technologies will help encourage realistic expectations surrounding decarbonization by still making cars that consumers still want to drive.

As for the Fusilier, it’s slightly smaller than the Grenadier but still an off-road vehicle nonetheless. Smoother body lines help minimize drag while active grill shutters open and close automatically to manage airflow. Chamfered corners and edges also help with airflow but also serve to increase visibility of the road when driving. Despite all the updates, the 4×4 still maintains the INEOS design ethos that was established with the Grenadier and Quartermaster.
