Hennessey Just Cranked the Gas-Powered Hypercar World to 11 With the 2,031-HP Venom F5 Evolution

Remember when a 1,000 horsepower seemed newsworthy? Yeah, us too. Apparently, Hennessey Performance thinks those are rookie numbers. The Texas-based shop that’s spent decades turning already-fast vehicles into highway-destroying monsters has now unveiled something that makes even the wildest European hypercars look downright sensible. The new Venom F5 Evolution pushes things to the absolute extreme with a claimed 2,031 horsepower from an internal combustion engine alone. No hybrid assistance, no electric motors – just pure, unadulterated American V8 fury.

When Too Much Power Isn’t Enough

Imagine owning a hypercar with 1,817 horsepower and thinking, “You know what? This just isn’t cutting it.” Apparently, that’s exactly what several Hennessey customers said, which prompted the company to partner with legendary engineering firm Ilmor to create what they’re claiming is the world’s most powerful pure internal combustion engine ever fitted to a production road car.

The Evolution package starts with Hennessey’s already ludicrous 6.6-liter twin-turbo “Fury” V8 and cranks the insanity to unprecedented levels. The upgrades read like a speed shop’s fever dream: Precision 76/80 Next Gen turbochargers (which Hennessey claims are the largest mirror-image turbos in the world), oval-shaped billet aluminum pistons designed by Ilmor, extreme-duty connecting rods, titanium exhaust valves, and high-flow fuel injectors. The result is an additional 214 horsepower over the standard Venom F5, with peak power hitting at 8,000 rpm and a staggering 1,445 lb-ft of torque at 5,200 rpm.

How quick is it? Forget 0-60 times, those are for commuter cars. Hennessey quotes a 0-200 mph time of just 10.3 seconds. That’s faster than most cars can run the quarter mile. It’s simply mind-bending acceleration that few humans would even be capable of handling.

More Than Just Raw Power

While it would be easy to dismiss the F5 Evolution as just an exercise in horsepower one-upmanship, Hennessey has actually put serious engineering thought into making this monster more usable and trackable. Working with Formula One and IndyCar aerodynamicist Dr. Mark Handford, they’ve completely redesigned the front splitter and made significant changes to the underbody aerodynamics.

New dive planes ahead of each front wheel, tire wake deflectors underneath, and louvres above the front wheel arches all contribute to improved downforce. A Gurney lip at the trailing edge of the rear spoiler enhances high-speed stability, and while we typically find these to be overkill, this setup is something you definitely want when approaching speeds that could qualify you for takeoff.

Perhaps most surprisingly, the F5 Evolution also features a new adaptive suspension system that transforms the car’s character based on which drive mode you’ve selected via the steering wheel toggle. This allows owners to set up the hypercar for anything from track assaults to (relatively) comfortable road trips, with the system automatically adjusting ride height, damping, and handling characteristics.

For the Hypercar Owner Who Has Everything

In a nod to the reality that some owners actually want to use their seven-figure hypercars as more than garage sculptures, Hennessey has developed a set of “Touring” options for the F5 Evolution. These include more comfortable leather-wrapped carbon seats with extra bolstering for long-distance driving and (I kid you not) a carbon fiber cup holder. Because nothing says “practical hypercar” like having somewhere to put your latte between 0-200 mph runs.

The entire Evolution package can be fitted to any existing Venom F5 (Coupe, Roadster, or Revolution) or ordered on new builds. Of course, such extreme performance doesn’t come cheap. The Evolution package will set you back $285,000 on top of the roughly $2 million base price for the car itself, and the optional Touring upgrades cost even more.
