First entering production in 2014 — as what was essentially a spun-off two-door version of the M3 with a new naming convention — the BMW M4 already represented one of the Bavarian brand’s most popular and sought-after model ranges, as well as one of its quickest and most powerful. And while the company still has yet to debut a third-generation M4 platform, it’s nonetheless opted to treat the M-spec 4 Series to a host of fairly substantial updates and upgrades for the 2025 model year.

Though based on the same G22/G23 gen platform as the prior model year, the 2025 M4 cars benefit from a slew of updates of the cosmetic, technological, and mechanical varieties. Under the hood, all 2025 M4 models feature a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter straight-six. Utilizing BMW’s M TwinPower Turbo tech, the forced-induction six-banger puts down a respectable 473hp and 406ft-lbs of torque on the coupe and drop top, while the top-of-the-line Comp xDrive variants make 523hp and 479ft-lbs of torque. The powertrain is offered with the buyer’s choice of either a modern eight-speed M Steptronic transition, or a classic six-speed manual gearbox. Also included across the entire 2025 M4 range is Adaptive M suspension, M-specific Elastokinematics, M Compound brakes with six-piston calipers, and a generous slew of state-of-the-art driving stability systems.

On the outside, the M4 lineup now sports a redesigned headlight setup complete with twin vertical LED units, as well as new taillights with laser diodes that illuminate glass fiber bundles in order to generate three-dimensional light graphics. This laser tech-equipped setup was previously offered on the ultra-exclusive limited edition M4 CSL, though is now being adopted by the entire M4 range. In addition to being offered with a steel roof option at no extra cost, the outside of the car can also now be optioned with a host of available M design graphics for the hood and trunk lid. Inside the 2025 M4, BMW has bestowed the high-performance daily-driver with a curved display that benefits from the use of the marque’s iDrive 8.5 system. The cabin has also been updated with new steering wheels and interior trim options. The M4 Coupe, Convertible, and Competition xDrive models all ride on style 825M M forged light-alloy wheels with a new optional finish — staggered-sized items with 18” units in front and 19” out back for the hard and droptop, and 19” front, 20” rear rims on the range-topping Competition models.
