In early 2021, Southern California-based EV outfit SONDORS pulled the cover off of its game-changing MetaCycle — an urban-focused fully-electric two-wheeler with an 80-mph top speed, an 80-mile range, 130ft-lbs of torque, and a wildly-accessible $5,000 MSRP. And after the immense hype that the MetaCycle generated, the Malibu manufacturer has now been prompted to unleash a dual-sport-style followup known as the SONDORS MetaBeast X.

Like the MetaCycle, the MetaBeast X is constructed around a unique weld-free frame that’s created using a single-piece casting and mated to an inverted fork and a mono-shock rear suspension. SONDORS’ dual-sport maintains the MetaCycle’s futuristic design language, though features larger battery covers, while still retaining the negative space in the chassis where a motorcycle’s tank is normally located. At the heart of the dual-sport is an 18-kW (24.1-hp) electric motor that puts down 44.25ft-lbs of instantaneous torque, allowing for a top speed of 75mph. The 95V, 55Ah battery that the motor draws from also delivers a range of just under 80 miles per charge.

Weighing in at just 200lbs — just a tad over that of your average 125cc dirt bike — the MetaBeast X also sports high-mount off-road-style fenders fore and aft, spoked wheels shod in knobby tires, disc brakes, a circular LED headlight sunken into a motocross-style number board, and an MX-style seat that culminates in a digital display that’s been integrated into the MetaBeast X’s bodywork. What’s more, SONDORS is also producing a lower-specced, more affordable version of the electric enduro simply named the MetaBeast that features a 6-kW (8-hp) motor with 29.5ft-lbs of torque, a 50-mph top speed, an ultra-svelte 123-lb curb weight, and a 72V, 30Ah battery with a 44-mile range. Best of all, both of these off-road-capable models are also fully street legal.

Being delivered only in the continental United States, the 2024 SONDORS MetaBeast X Electric Dual-Sport Motorcycle is currently available with special preorder pricing of just $6,500 until April 12th, at which time the price will jump up to its regular $8,000 MSRP. The lower-specced MetaBeast is currently available for preorder as well for $3,000 — a $1,500 discount over its eventual $4,500 price. Deliveries of both the MetaBeast and the MetaBeast X are scheduled to begin in October of 2023.
