Since the economic recession of 2008, the Harley-Davidson Motor Co. has struggled to maintain the dominance it once had over the cruiser segment, with the Milwaukee MoCo losing ground and market share year after year to brands like Indian. In a bid to expand its reach and tap into a new, younger demographic, the Black and Orange began developing a handful of new bikes from sectors that had previously gone untapped by Harley, including the EV space. First breaking cover in prototype form in 2014, the Harley-Davidson Livewire marked the brand’s first-ever fully-electric motorcycle.

First entering production in 2019, the Livewire was initially sold under the H-D brand, though in 2021 the company announced it had established an EV-specific sub-brand known as Livewire, at which time Harley’s inaugural ebike was rebranded to the Livewire ONE. The Livewire sub-brand would make headlines yet again the following year when it debuted its S2 Del Mar — a prototype electric motorcycle with unmistakable street tracker styling. And after initially revealing the S2 Del Mar’s targeted specs, the company has now pulled the cover off of the final production-ready 2024 Livewire S2 Del Mar electric motorcycle, revealing images of the final production bike along with pricing, availability, and a full spec sheet.

Assembled at Harley-Davidson’s Vehicle Operations plant in York, Pennsylvania, the production version of the S2 Del Mar boasts performance capabilities that are equal to or greater than that of Livewire’s targets. This includes a 431lb curb weight, a 75-minute 20% to 80% recharge time, a 110-mile city range, and an electric motor that generates 184ft-lbs of torque, allowing for a 3.1-second 0-60mph time. The new model also features premium componentry throughout, including Brembo brakes and an inverted fork. Offered in Nimbus Gray, Nightfall Blue, or Asphalt Black color options, the production version of the ebike also maintains the prototype’s aesthetic design, with a modern two-up-friendly take on a tracker-style seat, a low-profile front number board-inspired headlight, a small tank reminiscent of Harley’s XR750 dirt oval racer, and a cooling fin-equipped battery pack that boasts a similar look to the MoCo’s iconic air-cooled V-Twins.
