GMC’s First-Ever Sierra EV Is An Ultra-Premium 754-HP Pickup

While the sector was non-existent only a few years ago, the all-electric pickup segment has absolutely exploded in recent years, giving way to a host of increasingly competitive and capable EV workhorses, from the Bollinger B2 to the Tesla Cybertruck to the Rivian R1S. And the latest marque to toss its hat into the proton-powered pickup ring is GMC, which has just pulled the cover off of its all-new — and thoroughly premium — Sierra EV lineup.

Marking the first-ever all-electric Sierra, the new pickup range is initially being offered in three versions, the Sierra EV Elevation, the Sierra EV AT4, and the Sierra EV Denali Edition 1. At the heart of the Sierra EV are front and rear electric drive units that are paired with an e4WD system and crank out up to 754hp and 785ft-lbs of torque — figures that allow for a 0-60mph time of less than 4.5 seconds. Based on the Ultium platform, the EV powertrain draws from a battery pack that affords an estimated range of around 400 miles. Offering fast-charging capabilities at up to 350kW, the truck’s battery can also gain an additional 100 miles of range after only 10 minutes of charging — a best-in-class figure for the EV pickup segment. Even more impressive is the pickup’s onboard Power Station Pro system, which boasts up to 10.2kW of off-board power — enough to power a home’s essential necessities for up to three weeks

The electrified Sierra also boasts Air Ride Adaptive Suspension, four-wheel steering and crab-waking capabilities, a 9,500-pound towing capacity, and GMC’s new MultiPro Midgate expandable bed. The vehicle also comes loaded with tech, including customizable drive modes, trailering-capable Super Cruise hands-free driver assistance technology, and one-Pedal Driving. The exterior of the first electric Sierra model retains GMC’s signature design language, though puts an unmistakably futuristic spin on the brand’s usual aesthetic. Brimming with premium materials including grain-matched open-pore wood, aluminum, and etched stainless steel, the interior of the truck sports a panoramic fixed glass roof, a 14” Head-Up display, an 11” reconfigurable driver information center, and a 16.8” freeform infotainment touchscreen — the largest ever in any Sierra model.

Scheduled to begin deliveries in early 2024, the 2024 GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 and Sierra EV Elevation will both start at $107,000, while the regular Sierra EV models are expected to be priced from $50,000 and up.
