In 1947, Maserati rolled out its first road-ready production car, the A6 1500. Prior to that, the British marque had over three decades’ worth of experience making track racers. The 1500 Gran Turismo, as it would be called, ran on a 1.5L inline-six engine capable of 65hp and a top speed of 96mph.
Things have changed in the past 75 years, to say the least. Today, Maserati unveiled its upcoming 2023 GranTurismo models, which look to both the past and the future. Two of the cars — the Modena and the Trofeo — feature the same 3.0L V6 Nettuno twin-turbo combustion engine as the existing MC20 supercar. The Modena will perform at 490hp and the Trofeo, with some powertrain upgrades, at 550hp.
On the other side of the coin is the Folgore, Maserati’s first electric car, which adopts Formula E technology to become 100% battery-powered. It sports three 92.5kWh magnetic motors for a total output of 760hp and features an innovative construction that utilizes lightweight aluminum and magnesium as well as high-performance steel. Additionally, the interior uses Econyl for the seats, a sustainable material made from recycled fishing nets.
