First entering production in 2003, the Chevrolet Colorado currently stands as one of the most popular mid-sized pickup truck models, and while we’ve already seen several generations of the utilitarian pickup, Chevy has now opted to unleash a heavily-revised generation of the truck to coincide with its 20th anniversary.
Produced in five different specs with four different interior trim levels, the 2023 Colorado may not benefit from a ground-up redesign, though nonetheless sports some significant changes over its 2022 predecessor. The biggest of which is the fact that Chevy will now use a single engine across the entire model range — a 2.7-liter turbo engine that’s mated to a second-generation eight-speed automatic transmission and makes up to 310hp and 430ft-lbs of torque. The latest Colorado also gets revised bodywork with more aggressive lines, a new hood, and a revised grille arrangement set between a pair of slim LED headlights.
Other highlights found across the lineup include a best-in-class camera setup with up to ten views, Hitch Guidance, a dedicated trailering app, adaptive cruise control, blind zone steering assist, IntelliBeam automatic high-beam assist, and five selectable drive modes including dedicated off-road and Baja modes. At the top of the new lineup sits the Colorado ZR2. This high-performance factory off-roader features a track that’s 3” wider and a lifted, 3” suspension package with upgraded Multimatic DSSV dampers. On top of boasting 10.7” of ground clearance, the ZR2-spec also offers breakover, departure, and approach angles of 24.6°, 25.1°, and 38.3°, respectively. Alongside a 6,000-pound tow rating, the ZR2-spec also gains an 11.3” infotainment system and an available all-new Off-Road Performance display with altitude and GPS readouts, pitch, roll, tire pressure, a g-force meter, a wheel slip indicator, and transfer case status.
Offered in WT, LT, Trail Boss, ZR1, and ZR2 trim levels, the 2023 Chevrolet Colorado Pickup range is slated for a release in Q1 of next year — by which time pricing, availability, and full spec sheets are expected to be unveiled.
