Two years ago on this same week, Texas-based electric powersports startup Volcon unveiled its inaugural offering with a work-focused, IP67-rated electric utility motorcycle known as the Grunt. Now that the Grunt has hit the market, Volcon has turned to fellow Texas-based outfit, Revival Cycles, tapping the world-renowned custom moto shop to put its own unique spin on Volcon’s eBike.
The bike was designed by Revival with help from Ed Boyd — a regular Revival collaborator and the designer of the shop’s recent Ducati Monster-based “Fuse” build. Once stripped down, the machine’s tail section was lopped off and replaced with a new cantilevered, hooped subframe that’s crafted from ⅞” tubing and capped off with a sunken Radiantz Skid Markz LED tail light and custom-shaped seat that’s trimmed in Alcantra. In addition to custom support braces for the subframe, the shop also had to fabricate custom supports for the bike’s bespoke billet foot-pegs and one-off brackets for the build’s inverted swing-arm — the latter of which has been equipped with an Ohlins TTX36 rear shock.
The front end also now sports LSL Street Low bars with white Amal grips, a modified front fender, a custom CNC-machined instrumentation mount welded to the top triple, and a side-by-side yellow-lensed Twin Projector headlight from SpeedMotoCo. Outfitted with a 2.0KWH battery, the donor has also had its wheel-set stripped to the bare alloy before being fitted with disc covers and wrapped in Maxxis Ancla rubber. With the framework and new controls now complete, Revival set about CAD-designing a new retro-inspired full fairing for the build, before the 3D model was prepped and hand-laid in fiberglass. With the bodywork now also complete, the project’s finishing touch came in the form of a vintage-inspired one-off white livery accented via swaths of three different shades of blue.
While Revival Cycles’ Volcon Grunt build isn’t for sale, it nonetheless demonstrates just how surprisingly conducive the EV is to customization. More information on the entire build process can be viewed on the Revival Cycles website, or via a promo video prepared for the bike.
