Back in 1988, Jaguar’s racing team took home the trophy at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. It was the British manufacturer’s first win in over 30 years and would end up being its penultimate win out of 7 total (1990 would be the last). The victory was also significant in that it ended Porsche’s dominance in the race, at which it had won 7 in a row and 12 over an 18-year period. Jaguar’s ‘88 win was accomplished by a trio of drivers — Jan Lammers, Johnny Dumfried, and Andy Wallace — driving a XJR-9 LM with a 7.0L V12 engine, jointly developed with Tom Walkinshaw Racing.
Today, Jaguar is commemorating the victory with a limited edition of its F-PACE SVR, which sits atop its F-PACE line of SUVs which were initially debuted back in 2016. The supercharged V8 puts out a whopping 542hp, has 502lb-ft of torque, and is capable of going from 0 to 60 in just 4.3 seconds, with a top speed of 176mph.
The latest model, dubbed Edition 1988, was created by the personalization experts at SV Bespoke. Paying homage to the purple and yellow coat of the original XJR-9 LM, this F-PACE is given a beautiful Midnight Amethyst paint on the exterior, with Sunset Gold accents on both the inside and outside and forged alloy wheels in champagne gold.
To commemorate the number of laps driven by the three drivers, who went a total of 3,313 miles, Jaguar is only producing 394 examples of the Edition 1988, denoted by a commissioned graphic that reads, “One of 394.” The car will be initially presented at this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans on June 8 and will debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on June 23.
