Brands throughout the entire automotive industry are racing to see who can become fully electric first. All over the world, industry titans are coming out with more sophisticated and powerful electric offerings than ever before. One brand that’s really set the tone for this shift is Hyundai and its luxury offshoot, Genesis. In the past year alone, the Korean automotive giant has bolstered its lineup of EVs, with Genesis as their luxurious anchor. Now, Genesis seeks to widen the breadth of their electric portfolio with the all-new Electrified GV70.
Genesis debuted the Electrified GV70 at the Guangzhou International Automobile Exhibition, and it seeks to use it as a standard-bearer for what electric luxury SUVs can offer. The Electrified GV70 inherited its combustion predecessor’s spacious interior, however, it boasts added power and a slew of technological updates. From a performance perspective, the Electrified GV70 impresses. It only comes in all-wheel-drive and features a power output of 214hp and 258lb-ft of torque in its “normal mode”, however, when in “boost mode”, the Electrified GV70’s numbers increase to 360hp and 516lb-ft of torque. When in Boost Mode, the Electrified GV70 can achieve 0-62mph in a speedy 4.5 seconds. Moreover, the Electrified GV70 is the first car in the Genesis family to feature an e-Terrain Mode, which enables a stable driving experience in various environments. For its range-per-charge, the Electrified GV70 has an estimated 310 miles, according to the Chinese certification system, and an estimated 248 miles, according to the Korean EV certification system. Equally as impressive, the Electrified GV70 has a rapid charge time of 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes, thanks to Genesis’ application of a 400V/800V multi-rapid charging system.
Technologically speaking, Genesis loaded the Electrified GV70 with innovative offerings such as Active Noise Control-Road and Preview Electronic Control Suspension to optimize the driver’s comfort while driving, plus a Disconnector Actuator System, which connects or disconnects the motor and driveshaft as you drive to reduce power loss. Genesis has yet to specify when the Electrified GV70 will come to the U.S. market.
