All was kismet in 2016 when Ford won first in the GTE-Pro class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans with its second-generation GT supercar. It marked the 50th anniversary of the American marque’s first-ever Le Mans win in 1966, along with the unprecedented feat of coming in first, second, and third overall that year with the GT40 — the iconic racer that heavily inspired this new iteration.
Ford’s GT was unveiled in 2003 — the company’s 100th anniversary — and has been among the most notable vehicles produced over the past two decades. This week, the company announced that it was closing the door on the supercar in style. Capping off a long line of special edition versions of the road car (there were four this year alone), the 2022 Ford GT LM will be the last.
Paying homage to the poetic Le Mans win in 2016, the upcoming vehicle will come in a dark silver coat and either red or blue carbon fiber trim accenting the livery, with corresponding red or blue design details on the interior as well, including the driver’s seat. The car will also utilize 3D printing for the dual exhaust and the instrument panel badge that’s made from the ground-down crankshaft of the GT car that came in third place at Le Mans in 2016.
Powered by a twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 engine with 660hp output, the 2022 Ford GT LM special edition will be limited to just 20 examples that are set to roll out sometime this year.
