Despite initially being in operation for less than two decades — from 1908 to 1926 — Brough Superior nonetheless still stands as one of the all-time most legendary British motorcycle manufacturers, rivaled by only by the likes of Norton, BSA, and Triumph. Within the last decade, Brough was revived, at which time moto designer Thierry Henriette was tasked with penning a modernized version of the legendary brand’s iconic SS100 model. This would mark the first of a small number of ultra-premium hand-built models from Brough — which is now based out of Toulouse, France — the latest of which is the all-new Nefud Scrambler.
This new Brough model is based on the firm’s existing Lawrence Special Edition that was unveiled in March of 2021, though it has received numerous tweaks and upgrades pushing it squarely into scrambler territory. Dubbed the “Nefud,” the bike takes its name from the An Nafud Desert — a region in the Northern Arabian Peninsula explored on two wheels by TE Lawrence. Cloaked in an ocher gradient livery reminiscent of the red dunes of the bike’s desert namesake, the Nefud features a high-mounted scrambler-style set of mufflers and a revised ergonomics setup with a higher, wider set of bars and a lower-mounted set of footpegs. The model also sports the same top-of-the-line Berringer brakes and custom Fior-style front-end, though the Lawrence’s machined aluminum seven-arm wheels have been swapped out for a set of off-road-friendly spoked hoops in the form of a 19” front, 17” rear wheelset that comes shod in knobby Michelin Anakee Wild tires. In addition to a new flyscreen, the model’s LED headlight arrangement is now protected behind a bespoke grille. Like the Lawrence, the Nefud is constructed around a machined titanium main chassis that houses a proprietary liquid-cooled 997cc 88° V-Twin that puts down 102hp and 64ft-lbs of torque — and is now fortified behind a full bash guard.
Pricing and a full spec sheet for the Brough Superior Nefud Scrambler have yet to be unveiled, though we anticipate the new model to be priced similarly to the brand’s €65,000 (~$87,360) Lawrence Special Edition.
