Alongside running a bustling lifestyle, clothing, and accessories brand, one of the factors that makes Deus Ex Machina so unique is the fact that it has brick and mortar locations scattered across the globe, each of which churns out custom bikes built to suit their respective local environments and the riding styles they require. And a stellar example of this is the latest one-off two-wheeled work from Deus’ Temple of Enthusiasm in Bali, which has just unveiled a lightweight dual-sport project built specifically for ripping around the Indonesian island.
Dubbed “Rufus” — Latin for “Red” — the build started life as a 2014 Kawasaki KLX 250, though the quarter-liter thumper is now a far cry from its former self. After stripping the donor of its stock plastics, the team at the Temple built the bike back up using all-new hand-formed alloy bodywork, whipping up new side covers, fork guards, radiator guards, engine guard, fenders, headlight housing, chain guard, and a bespoke gas tank with custom shop badges. Riding on TK Racing wheels, the build also sports all-LED lighting, Biltwell bars and grips, and a custom DXM-branded canvas foam bar pad. There’s also a custom subframe that now supports a one-off seat and a removable aluminum luggage rack. Making the Kawasaki all the more conducive to life on the island is a custom removable surfboard rack, as well. Rufus’ engine now ejects spent fumes from an FMF POWERCORE4 header and muffler, too.
