Founded in 2015 by David Widmann, National Custom Tech Motorcycles — better known simply as “NCT” — is a renowned bike building outfit based in Kärnten, Austria. And while the company already boasts one seriously impressive build portfolio, NCT still manages to steadily raise the bar with each new project — the latest of which is a BMW R 100 R dubbed “Lightspeed.”
Beginning life as a 1991 model year specimen, the R Series donor was first treated to a complete teardown and rebuild of its 998cc boxer twin, bestowing the mill with new ceramic coated pistons, BING carbs paired with new pod filters, powder-coated engine cover and cylinder heads, and a hand-welded HP Corse exhaust. The more-than-three-decade-old donor has also had its electrical system revised using modern Motogadget items — the same German outfit that supplied the build’s Motoscope Pro instrumentation. Another one of the project’s most striking features is its new tail section, which is comprised of a waspish milled and extruded aluminum subframe with integrated rear lighting that’s been capped off with a prototype NCT saddle.
Now tipping the scales at more than 70lbs less than the stock donor, the build sports top-shelf Brembo brakes front and aft, with the forward unit being a six-piston item that now chomps down on dual 320mm petal rotors. The BMW’s suspension has also been jettisoned in favor of ultra-premium items from Öhlins, with a USD fork slotted in custom triples out front, and a TTX monoshock with a remote reservoir in the rear. Other highlights include a KOSO Thunderbolt LED headlight tucked beneath a one-off cowl, a carbon front fender, adjustable billet aftermarket rear-sets, and a fresh set of clip-on handlebars fitted with new grips, circular drop-down bar-end mirrors, and bar-end LED indicators all from Motogadget. In total, NCT calculates that well over $33,000 worth of upgrades and custom componentry have been added to this stunning two-wheeler.
Rather than being sold through traditional avenues, NCT Moto is offering its Lightspeed build through a special sweepstakes raffle. For every €10 (~$11) spent on the shop’s online merch store, buyers will be given one ticket. Once 7,800 total tickets have been allotted, the sweepstakes will come to a close and a random winner will be selected. Those interested in entering to win this stunning BMW can purchase merch on the NCT website.
