Ford Celebrates the Release of Its First ‘E-Crate’ Engine with an F-100 EV Restmod

Ford has been producing high-performance crate engines for more than half-a-century, though as the American automaker increasingly transitions into battery-powered wares, it’s now looking to implement EV technology across a wider range of products. On top of an ever-growing number of production electric vehicle models, the Michigan-based brand has now debuted its first-ever EV crate engine with what it’s christened the “Eluminator e-crate motor.”

Appropriately carrying the part number, “M-9000-MACH-E,” this electron and proton-powered crate motor is the first of many that Ford plans on introducing over the coming years. Street-legal and regulation-compliant in all 50 states, the Eluminator puts down a healthy 281hp and 317ft-lbs of instantly accessible torque. To mark the occasion, Ford has whipped up a new EV concept vehicle of the same name, taking a 1978 F-100 and treating the build to the 480hp twin-motor setup used in Ford’s Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition. Built in collaboration with MLe Racecars, the concept is constructed around a custom Roadster Shop frame, rides on 19″ three-piece Forgeline wheels machined from aluminum billet, and is cloaked in an Avalanche Gray livery with Cerakote Copper accents. In addition to a powertrain that makes 634ft-lbs of torque — 84 more than the latest Ford GT — the resto-modded F-100 has also received a completely redesigned interior with a billet aluminum dash, avocado-tanned leather upholstery, all-digital instrumentation, and a massive Tesla-style touchscreen display.

The Ford Eluminator e-crate motor is available now through both online and brick and mortal authorized dealers. Designed to take the place of regular traverse-mounted mills, the Eluminator has been priced at $3,900.
