Since its inception in 2011, Ringbrothers has become one of the world’s most eminent custom car shops, with an ever-growing list of thoroughly transformative, high-performance restomods — the latest of which is a first-generation Ford Mustang convertible christened “CAGED.”
Starting out as a 1964.5 Mustang, the “CAGED” project took things in a novel direction for the Wisconsin workshop, with the build’s aim being to modernize the feel and performance of the American pony car without hugely altering its aesthetic lines. In typical Ringbrothers fashion, every inch of the donor car has been meticulously pored over, with the only remaining factory component being the car’s center wheel caps. After converting the Mustang’s Roadster Shop FAST TRACK chassis back into a unibody, the restomod’s CAD-designed, handmade bodywork was stretched by an inch before having some of its line sharpened for a more aggressive yet still subtle look. Cloaked in a BASF Glasurit “Burgundy Brave” livery, the build also saw all of its stainless steel and chrome trim items sprayed in Cerakote Titanium C-105P.
The project also boasts a slew of 3D-printed components and other minor odds and ends, including bespoke taillight bezels, a custom gas cap, a one-off running horse emblem, and a redesigned grille that’s set two inches further back. This redesigned grille now funnels air into the project’s Ford Performance 5.0-liter Coyote V8. Ejecting spent fumes via custom-built Ringbrothers headers feeding into a Flowmaster exhaust system, the crate engine has also been mated to a Ford 10R80 ten-speed automatic transmission. The Mustang’s performance has also been heavily modernized, thanks to top-shelf Baer brakes, and a new suspension package with Penske Racing Shocks RS Edition performance coilovers fore and aft, along with an independent rear suspension setup. The car also rides on a one-off set of 18” EVOD Industries wheels that were inspired by the Mustang’s original Rally wheels.
In total, the team at Ringbrothers spent more than 4,200 hours bringing its “CAGED” project to life. And while this stunning one-off work is already spoken for, the shop is currently accepting new customer commissions — though you should expect a lengthy waiting list.
