As several different vehicle industries continue to make the rapid shift over to battery power on land, water sports have been quietly evolving across the board in their own right, with the likes of standup paddleboarding, packrafting, and electric surfboarding catching on like wildfire in recent years, with new brands cropping up seemingly every month.

Take Kinetic Option, for example, a Singaporean startup readying the launch of the TKO 001, its debut electric surfboard made from a carbon fiber body for quicker speeds and better maneuverability. While it won’t be the first of its kind, the board is expected to weigh just under 40lbs before putting in the battery, reaching speeds up to 34mph on either fresh- or salt-water bodies. With your feet attached to the board via straps, you can zip around even in waveless oceans and lakes or get pulled by a boat via tow line.

At 5.9ft in length, the inaugural TKO 001 model runs on a custom plug-in lithium-ion battery which allows upwards of 40 minutes of average board usage, with a maximum of 45 minutes. An attached remote gives you information on your speed and battery life. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned veteran, Kinetic Option’s new surfboard is sure to sweep the industry upon launch.

Pre-orders are up now on the Kinetic Option’s website for the TKO 001 electric surfboard, which is priced at $18,000SGD (~$12,585) with deliveries expected to begin in October. For buyers who don’t mind waiting until early 2023 to receive their board, there’s a $1,000 deposit option as well.
