At this point, we’re used to seeing electric renditions of classic cars from several restomod shops, but that doesn’t make an up-and-comer any less noteworthy. Kindred Motorworks is a Northern California-based automotive start-up that has delivered a nostalgia-inducing group of EVs built around vintage icons.
The primary goal that Kindred hopes to achieve with its new line of EVs is shedding the worry of maintaining a vintage car. The modification shop tackled this by implementing each of these restored cars with modern-day powertrains, tuning, and safety upgrades. From a technological standpoint, Kindred’s Blueprint production platform is ahead of its time, as it’s managed to streamline the process of making these classic cars well-equipped for modern roads into a science. From custom paint to premium upholstery and sturdy bodywork to trusty machining, several fine-tuned elements go into each of these builds.
The first model will be the Kindred Bronco, based around the iconic 1966-75 Ford Bronco and powered either by a bolstered, 460-hp Ford 3rd Gen Coyote V8 or a battery with 200-mile range support. It sits on a set of 17″ forged aluminum wheels and all-terrain tires from BF Goodrich. This electrified iteration will be followed by other stellar models built around the 1950-67 Volkswagen Bus (now equipped with a state-of-the-art sound system), 1969 Chevy Camaro (which sits on forged aluminum wheels), and 1947-53 Chevy 3100 pickup truck — but wait, there’s more! Kindred plans to expand its lineup annually, as it hopes to deliver a new collection of modernized classics every year moving forward.
Each model will be available in an eye-popping array of retro-appropriate colors, including Tangerine, Sunshine Yellow, and Lake Blue. Pre-orders are available today via Kindred Motorworks’ website, with prices ranging from $169,000 – $199,000. Production will begin in 2024.
