YETI’s Tank 30 Ice Chest Is Basically a Tundra Cooler With the Lid Sawed Off

When it comes to keeping beverages cold, every summer party has the same weak link. The galvanized steel drink tub costs $15 at the hardware store and turns its ice into lukewarm soup by sunset while also sweating a puddle onto whatever table it’s sitting on.

Leave it to YETI to take that personally. The brand’s new Tank 30 Beverage Tub brings legitimate hard-cooler bones to the open-top format. And at $150, it’s priced like it, too.

Tundra Guts, No Lid Attached

On paper, a cooler without a lid sounds like a cooler with a design flaw. In practice, the Tank 30 uses the same rotomolded shell and PermaFrost insulation as YETI’s Tundra hard coolers, the construction that built the brand’s whole indestructible reputation in the first place. And YETI claims the ice will last for hours despite the open top.

Fifty-Three Cans Deep

The Tank 30 fits up to 53 cans (more than two full cases), or 21 wine bottles standing upright if your crowd skews a bit classier. And if you’re measuring by weight instead, it can handle about 38 pounds of ice.

Despite that capacity, the tub keeps its weight manageable at just 8.9 pounds empty. It also measure in at just over 28 inches wide, so it anchors the middle of a picnic table nicely. The interior even fits three large YETI Ice sheets across the bottom.

The Drain Plug Debate

YETI skipped the drain plug entirely here, reasoning that one less hole means one less potential leak point. And while we get that reasoning, it also means tipping out the meltwater by hand via the integrated handles, which is never a fun maneuver after a day of drinking.

Elsewhere, the details are trademark YETI. BearFoot non-slip feet keep it planted on wet bar tops, multiple tubs stack for offseason storage, and the whole thing is backed by a 5-year warranty.
