However, the Florence-based manufacturer’s latest partnership with Victorinox might be the most practical yet. While co-branded espresso machines look cool sitting on your counter, a Swiss Army Knife designed specifically for maintaining your La Marzocco machine is something you’ll actually use daily.
A Brief History of Two Heritage Brands
There’s over 200 years of combined history behind this release. Victorinox has been perfecting the Swiss Army Knife since 1891, when founder Karl Elsener first supplied soldier’s knives to the Swiss Army. The name “Victorinox” itself came about in 1921, combining “Victoria” (Elsener’s mother’s name) with “inox” (French for stainless steel).
Meanwhile, La Marzocco’s story began in 1927 when brothers Giuseppe and Bruno Bambi started producing espresso machines in Florence, eventually revolutionizing the industry in 1939 with the world’s first horizontal boiler machine.
Built for the Coffee Ritual
The Barista Tool packs 19 functions into the familiar red Cellidor housing, featuring inlaid metal logos from both brands. Beyond the standard Swiss Army Knife tools — large and small blades, corkscrew, bottle opener, tweezers, toothpick — you get coffee-specific additions that address real maintenance needs. The 12mm nozzle remover handles steam wand tips for cleaning or replacement. The coffee spatula pries hot baskets from portafilters. Various screwdrivers are sized specifically for La Marzocco machine components, while the combination pliers tackle gaskets and O-rings.
The reamer, punch, and sewing awl can even remove grouphead baskets, and the blades work perfectly for opening coffee bags or storage tins if need be. At 3.6″ long, it’s compact enough to keep near your machine but comprehensive enough to handle most routine maintenance tasks without digging through a drawer for separate tools.
