If you came up anywhere near the turn of the millennium, the Oakley Straight Jacket needs no introduction. It was the wraparound, the sport shield clipped to every ballplayer’s brim and every weekend warrior’s collar circa 1999.

Now it’s back, and the timing is very deliberate. Cult running label Satisfy has tapped Oakley for the seventh chapter of their ongoing “Equipment for Our World” series, and the reborn Straight Jacket 99 sits dead center.

The Shield Grows Up
This isn’t some nostalgia reissue built to sit on a shelf. Satisfy wrapped the icon in an exclusive Matte Black and dropped in Prizm Black Vented lenses, the venting there specifically to keep them from fogging when you’re redlining in the heat.

The bones stay pure Oakley with a lightweight O Matter frame and Unobtainium earsocks that, in true Oakley fashion, grip harder the more you sweat. It’s the rare Y2K throwback that actually comes through on through on performance.

A Cooling System, Not Just a Kit
The eyewear definitely grabs the headlines, but the HeatCrush apparel is really rad. Developed in Japan, the ultra-light fabric is built to pull heat off your body as you sweat, and here’s the clever part – it actually cools harder the more airflow it gets. Basically, run faster, get colder.

Satisfy backs the claim with actual data, too. On a thermal mannequin under FLIR imaging, HeatCrush dropped skin temperature a claimed 8 degrees Celsius from baseline. For context, that’s roughly doubling what regular nylon managed and even tripled polyester.

The full system runs deep (a tee, 8-inch Desert Shorts, arm sleeves, and a neck cooler), and each piece is hand dip-dyed in a Japanese dye house with over a century behind it, so no two come out looking quite alike.
