Darts isn’t the sport it was five years ago. The most recent PDC World Championship pulled a record 51.2 million viewer hours on Sky, more than double the numbers from four years back, with an 18-year-old taking back-to-back titles at Alexandra Palace. The pub game has officially gone primetime.
Now RIMOWA has shown up with the Dartboard Case in Silver, a limited-edition aluminum cabinet built alongside Winmau.
Winmau Doesn’t Do Novelty
This is usually where luxury sports collabs fall apart. Brand buys a cheap board, buries it inside something expensive, and lets the logo handle the rest.
Not this time. RIMOWA went to Winmau, the Welsh outfit that’s been making boards since the 1940s and currently supplies the PDC, and specced the Blade X. That’s the same board the pros throw at on the main stage, built with layered sisal, ultra-slim angled wiring that funnels darts toward the scoring beds, and a five-year warranty behind it.
It’s been recolored in a custom grey and aluminum palette to play nice with the case. Underneath the paint job, though, this is absolutely tournament equipment.
A Suitcase That Opens Sideways
The cabinet looks and feels just like a RIMOWA Classic at first glance. Grooved anodized aluminum, plane-engraved rivets, polished latch locks, and the black leather handle lifted straight off the luggage line.
Open the two doors and the interior goes full black microfibre, a welcome upgrade over the green felt and particleboard most cabinets settle for. Each door hides a set of three pro darts with black RIMOWA shafts and monogrammed flights, one side red, one side green.
There’s a leather pouch for spare tips and hardware, because of course there is. RIMOWA says this is the first time it’s used a double-door format, and the whole thing was assembled at the brand’s Cologne headquarters.
Doing the Math Nobody Asked For
It is worth mentioning that a Blade X costs $179.95 direct from Winmau. The case around it runs $6,300, which puts the container at roughly 35 times the price of the equipment inside it.
RIMOWA already sells watch cases, wine cases, and a poker attaché under a category it literally files as Games & Leisure, so the grooves have been traveling well beyond the airport for a while now.
The campaign at least gets the joke. Walton Goggins plays a security guard working a Sunday shift at the Cologne factory, distracted by his football team, quietly bargaining with the bullseye. And director Grégoire Dyer keeps it straight-faced enough to land.
