Founded in 2010, Peak Design now boasts an expansive catalog of bags, carry solutions, and other accessories, though the San Francisco brand’s most iconic product remains the Everyday Backpack. Now on its second-generation, this pack first hit the market in late 2016, at which time it raised the bar and set a new standard in the photography bag space. And after the continued success of the Everyday Backpack V2, Peak Design has now opted to release a novel version of the pack that maintains its award-winning design though sees it brought to life in a markedly more hardwearing X-Pac sailcloth shell construction.

Like the existing versions of Peak Design’s Everyday Backpack V2, the new X-Pac version is being produced in both 20-liter and 30-liter sizes. Both variants benefit from the same modular layout as their predecessors, and feature the same removable trio of FlexFold divider system and multiple entry points — some of the key features that set the Everyday Backpack apart from other EDC and photography packs on the market. The backpack also boasts four cord hook external carry straps, a padded and suspended laptop compartment with its own entry point, a quick-connecting alloy sternum strap system, and both side and top padded grab handles.

While the existing Everyday Backpack’s double poly-coated DWR-impregnated 400-denier nylon canvas shell was nothing to scoff at, Peak Design has nonetheless opted to upgrade the 400D construction to a substantially more hardwearing Coyote-colored laminated multi-layer X-Pac VX-21 Ocean Edition sailcloth fabric material. To maximize durability, this insanely rugged and ridiculously waterproof American-made sailcloth construction has also been pieced together using 22-degree diamond-patterned X-PLY threading.

For the backpack’s two front zippers and the track covering its laptop compartment, Peak has outfitted the thing with equally-premium coated UltraZip zippers with super-abrasion-resistant UHMPE threading and HYPALON pulls. Thanks to its cleverly-designed MagLatch hardware, Peak’s Everyday pack can easily be expanded to open up a bit of extra storage space, with this feature affording an additional 3 or more liters of space on the 20-liter model and over 8 liters on the bigger 30-liter version.

The rest of the pack’s hardware consists of anodized aluminum and glass-reinforced nylon items. By sweating these minor details and opting for both a ridiculously durable shell construction and just as hardwearing threading, the X-Pac-spec Everyday Backpack is practically guaranteed to provide years and years of dependable use. And, should you somehow manage to damage this ultra-rugged backpack, Peak Design stands behind it with a generous Lifetime Guarantee.
