Odyssey Recreates Happy Gilmore’s Hockey Stick Putter, and You Can Actually Golf with It

Twenty-nine years after Adam Sandler first slapped a ball into the cup with a makeshift hockey stick, Odyssey is resurrecting one of golf’s most memorable props. And right in time for Happy Gilmore 2 hitting Netflix on July 25. Unlike the original film’s DIY aesthetic, this isn’t some cobbled-together club from the pro shop. Odyssey has engineered a legitimate piece of golf equipment that happens to look like it belongs on an NHL bench, or in Happy’s hands.

When Hockey Meets the Green

Odyssey’s relationship with unconventional putters runs deeper than movie tie-ins. Since 1991, the company has dominated professional tours, building their reputation on putters that perform rather than conform. The new hockey stick putter is par for the course, built with Odyssey’s proven White Hot insert technology, the same urethane material that originated from Callaway’s early golf ball operations, and became so popular among tour pros that Odyssey launched an entire OG line around it in 2021.

At 44” long with a 57-degree lie angle, this putter has more in common with a driver than a traditional flatstick. The 21-inch pistol grip accommodates Happy’s signature slap-shot putting style, while the stainless steel head features a distinctive black-white-gold colorway that mirrors actual hockey stick tape patterns. Three separate White Hot inserts span the hitting surface — the largest being in the primary striking area, with additional inserts toward the heel and toe for off-center hits.

Get In The Hole

The aesthetic execution here is far from gimmicky. The urethane face insert resembles the tape that hockey players wrap around their stick blades, bridging function with film accuracy. Even the included headcover — a tube sock embroidered with “Just tap it in” and Happy’s name — pays homage to the original stick’s makeshift charm while providing actual club protection.

The flat back design violates USGA rules, making it illegal for competition but making it perfect for the novelty market where form matters most. And if you’re just looking for collectibility, it’s important to mention that a set of three of Odyssey’s 2021 golden anniversary putters autographed by Sandler sold for $6,000 at Heritage Auctions. These should be even more coveted.

Chrome Tour Companion

Alongside the putter, Callaway is releasing limited-edition Chrome Tour golf balls featuring hockey jersey designs and iconic movie quotes. The Chrome Tour is actually the same ball Happy uses in the sequel and has four major championship victories to its credit. These balls do conform to golf rules, unlike their putter counterpart, creating an interesting dynamic where collectors can use half of this movie-inspired set in actual rounds if they so choose.
