LEGO’s Pirates of the Caribbean theme disappeared as quickly as it arrived, lasting just one wave in 2011 before vanishing into collector’s item territory. Now it’s back with Captain Jack Sparrow’s Pirate Ship — a nearly 3,000-piece Icons set for adults that transforms the beloved 804-piece Black Pearl into something far more ambitious.

More Than Just Bigger
Sure, there are nearly triple the pieces compared to the 2011 version, but the real difference is in the mechanics. For starters, LEGO built an internal gear system that lets you deploy all eight cannons at once by turning dials at the back of the ship. The gun ports snap open and cannons slide into position, which is way more sophisticated than anything they attempted on the original. You can tell their designers have been thinking hard about how to make these big sets feel alive rather than just static displays.
Spanning a whopping 25″ in length, the dual display options might be even more impressive from a design perspective. Being able to split the hull at the waterline gives you two completely different presentation modes: the full ship on its angled stand for that museum-quality look, or the “sailing” configuration that suggests the vessel cutting through actual water.

Icons Treatment Pays Off
This isn’t just a scaled-up version of the 2011 set, but a complete reconceptualization of what a LEGO pirate ship can be. The level of interior detail, from the captain’s quarters with its dining table and provisions to the gun deck below, creates spaces aimed to feel lived-in. The set includes eight minifigures, including Sparrow, Will Turner, Elizabeth Swann, and fan-favorite Anamaria who never got the LEGO treatment before.
