Inspired by the Original PST, the Rebar Shows Why Leatherman Still Runs the Category

The absolute standard in the multi-tool category, Leatherman not only invented the modern-day pliers-based multi-tools but has become revered for its range of premium models fitting a wide range of handymen and adventurers. And while you might opt for one of the Oregon-based brand’s top-shelf multi-tools for certain tasks, the Rebar stands as its flagship value model — but not without maintaining the standard Leatherman has set for the rest of its lineup.

You could reasonably take any of Leatherman’s multi-tools into the wilderness, but the Rebar might be one of the best for the task. Housing a whopping 17 functions in a mere 6.7-ounce steel frame, the unit is built around a set of pliers and features a 420HC straight-edge blade, a 420HC serrated knife, a saw, an electrical crimper, a wire stripper, premium wire and hard-wire cutters, and three sizes of screwdriver, among others. Available in six different colorways, the steel handle also has notches that make it an 8-inch ruler.

Utilizing all locking tools, besides the plier head, the Rebar requires you to click each tool into place and deliberately disengage it when folding away for safety. This means when you’re applying significant amounts of pressure, you don’t run the risk of, say, the knife blade or screwdriver accidentally folding back into the frame. Designed without sharp edges, the handle itself is contoured to make it more comfortable to grip during use. The Rebar pays homage to Tim Leatherman’s game-changing PST multi-tool from 1983 and stretches just 4” when closed. You can also pair it with a nylon sheath sold separately.

Regularly priced at $90 from Leatherman’s website, the Rebar is now 20% off through December 31! Right now, you can also get 50% off customization, ending December 5 at 11:59 p.m. PST. As with all of the brand’s multi-tools, the multi-tool is also backed by Leatherman’s 25-year warranty.
